24 VDC Barrel Jack Installation &
Soldering 24V Power Wires to the PCB
1. Safety First
Put on your safety glasses.
Install the Pre‑Wired Barrel Jack Connector
Install the pre‑wired barrel jack connector into the enclosure’s power‑input opening and tighten the mounting hardware until secure.
2. Prepare and Tin the PCB Pads
Heat the +24 VDC and GND pads on the PCB and apply a small amount of solder to each so they are lightly tinned creating a slight solder bump.
3. Strip and Tin the Wires
If needed, wires are not already stripped and pre-tinned. Strip a short length of insulation from the red and black barrel‑jack wires. Twist the strands together into a tight bundle and tin each exposed conductor with solder so the strands are bonded and pre‑wetted, coated with solder.
4. Solder the Red +24 VDC Wire to the +24 VDC Input Pad
Place the tinned red wire onto the tinned +24 VDC pad, heat both together, and allow the solder to flow. Remove heat and let the joint cool without movement.
5. Solder the Black Ground Wire to the GND Input Pad
Place the tinned black wire onto the tinned GND pad, heat both together, and allow the solder to flow. Remove heat and let the joint cool without movement.
6. Inspect All Solder Joints
Confirm both joints are shiny, fully wetted, and not bridged to adjacent pads or traces.
7. Apply Strain Relief
Secure the wires to the PCB using stick-on cable clamp and a tie wrap so that any wire movement does not stress the solder joints.
